Termessos

Hey everybody - the pictures today are from our trip to Termessos, an ancient city which was one of the only places not able to be conquered by Alexander the Great (and mentioned in Homer's Iliad, by the way). And if you were there, you'd understand why - that was a quite a hike to the top (to an altitude of 3000+ feet). What follows are pictures of the entrance, what's left of the gymnasium, the "path" leading up there, and views of/from the theatre. Today's theatre made yesterday's look like child's play, although it's not in such good condition. But it's so high up! What incredible views.

This lovely little place is where we stopped for lunch after our hike - correction, after our 2 hikes (we had another little "hill" to climb into the mouth of a cave from which the artifacts at Anatolia Museum were found). But then came the dessert - Antalya's museum. The figures below (I'm pictured with Hermes, I think) are the ones that came from Perge, the city ruins we visited yesterday (remember the picture of me standing on a pedestal? That place.) How amazing to see both the artifacts and the places where they originally stood? Seriously, I think every American should see something like this at least once; there's simply nothing to compare it to, and the experience has been humbling.
